Tofino’s First Annual Woof-fit Mini-Triathlon for Dogs and Their People, will be held on Sunday, June 19th, 2016, on beautiful Chesterman Beach, near “The Wickaninnish Inn." All funds raised during this very special event, will be donated to The Smiling Blue Skies ® Cancer Fund, which is part of the Ontario Veterinary College, University of Guelph Pet Trust.
Smiling Blue Skies has been taking a bite out of cancer since the spring of 2001. We have raised over $1.6 million, and every single cent has gone on to fund critical research projects and initiatives, helping to advance the prevention and treatment of cancer in our pets, and helping to create leading edge cancer treatment facilities, including the Institute for Comparative Cancer Investigation, all the while, having an impact on human cancers too. Currently, we are funding one dozen studies. Smiling Blue Skies offers 24/7 support to anyone whose life has been touched by cancer.
Come out and walk or run, wheel or roll, stretch and swim, wade or paddle!! Try out “DOGA" aka "Yoga for Dogs!" Enjoy a great breakfast. We will even have a "Kids Zone," with two arts and crafts activities, including a “Memory Box” table and a colouring station. All fitness levels and dog breeds are welcome. Dogs must be on leash, and no flexi-leashes please. We will even have a veterinarian on site, Dr. Glynis Newman, DVM.
Registration is at 8:00 a.m., and the event begins at 9:00 a.m. It would be great if you registered on-line. You can set up your own page, with text, pictures, and video. People who donate to your team on-line, receive a tax receipt right away. Visit http://uofg.convio.net/tofinowoof-fit and please LIKE US on Facebook, at facebook.com/WoofFitMiniTriathlon. The first 50 participants will get awesome swag bags! The Top Three pledge earners will get great prize packages.
Thank you to all the heroes out there, whether all grown up or “reaching tall,” all giants in our eyes, who are helping to take a bite out of cancer, on behalf of the precious pets and people in our lives. Long live blue skies, where hope is a kite and dreams really do come true.
